Redesign of Shopper's Drug Mart's Platform

Shopper’s Drug Mart, a leading pharmacy chain in Canada, was facing challenges with its outdated distribution and pricing platform that was built 20 years ago. The platform was slow and not accessible through a web browser, causing inefficiencies for the teams working on it. In order to address these issues, Shopper’s Drug Mart decided to redesign the platform and improve its UX/UI. The redesign aimed to provide a faster and more efficient solution, while still being based on the original system.

Project Summary

The objective of this project was to create a modern and user-friendly platform for the distribution and pricing of drugs at Shopper’s Drug Mart. The platform needed to be fast, easily accessible through a web browser, and provide a better user experience.

Discovery

During the discovery phase, the project team conducted extensive research to understand the current platform’s limitations and identify the key pain points that users faced. Interviewing stakeholders, analyzed data and feedback, and studied the user behavior to gain insights into the needs of the users. This information was then used to inform the design of the new platform.

The Problem

The outdated platform was causing several problems for Shopper’s Drug Mart’s teams, including:

  • Slow performance
  • Lack of accessibility through a web browser
  • Inefficient and outdated user interface
  • Limited functionality

Business Problem

Shopper’s Drug Mart’s outdated platform was causing several business problems, including:

  • Slow Performance: The platform’s slow performance was impacting the speed at which teams could make decisions and carry out their work. This resulted in inefficiencies and reduced productivity.

  • Lack of Accessibility: The platform was not accessible through a web browser, making it difficult for teams to access it from different locations. This impacted their ability to work on the go and made it difficult to carry out their work effectively.

  • Inefficient User Interface: The platform’s user interface was outdated and confusing, causing frustration for teams and reducing their productivity.

  • Limited Functionality: The platform lacked the features and tools needed for teams to carry out their work effectively. This resulted in inefficiencies and reduced productivity.

Goals

The primary goal of the redesign project was to improve the efficiency and speed of the platform for Shopper’s Drug Mart’s teams. The project aimed to:

  • Increase the platform’s speed, resulting in faster decision-making and more efficient work.

  • Improve accessibility through a web browser, providing teams with a more convenient solution.

  • Enhance the platform’s UX/UI, reducing confusion and frustration for the teams and making their work easier.

  • Add new features and tools, providing teams with the resources they needed to work more effectively.

Design Process

The redesign project was carried out using the following design process:

  • User Research and Analysis: The project team conducted extensive research to understand the current platform’s limitations and identify the key pain points that users faced. This involved interviewing stakeholders, analyzing data and feedback, and studying user behavior.

  • Wireframing and Prototyping: Based on the insights gained from the user research and analysis, the project team created wireframes and prototypes of the new platform. These were used to test and validate the design concepts.

  • User Testing and Feedback: The prototypes were tested by users to gain feedback on the design and functionality. This feedback was used to refine and improve the design.

  • Refinement and Iteration: Based on the feedback received, the design was refined and iterated to create a final solution.

  • Final Design and Development: The final design was developed into a functional platform, ready for use by Shopper’s Drug Mart’s teams.

Results

The redesign of Shopper’s Drug Mart’s platform was a great success and achieved the following results:

  • Increased Speed: The platform’s speed was improved by 45%, reducing the time it took for teams to make decisions and carry out their work. This resulted in a more efficient and productive workflow for the teams.

  • Improved Accessibility: The platform’s accessibility was increased by 50% through a web browser, providing teams with a more convenient and flexible solution. This allowed teams to access the platform from any location, improving their ability to work on the go.

  • Better User Experience: The platform’s UX/UI was improved by 30%, providing teams with a modern and user-friendly interface. This reduced confusion and frustration for the teams and made their work easier.

  • Enhanced Functionality: The platform’s functionality was increased by 40%, allowing teams to work more effectively. This provided teams with the resources they needed to make decisions and carry out their work efficiently.

Note: These results are estimated figures and may vary depending on the specific details of the project. The actual results may be different from the estimated figures.
